Abstract

INTRODUCTION

Gulod Senior High School (GSHS) of the Batangas City Division complies with Republic Act 10553 or the Enhanced Basic Education Curriculum. It is a stand-alone institution offering Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Automotive, Electrical Installation and Maintenance (EIM), and Cookery. The level of accomplishment of the senior high school program objectives, the extent of employability of its graduates, their relationship and an Action Plan from the results of such inquiry were the concerns of the researcher.

METHODS

Descriptive-correlational research methods enabled the description of the two variables and the assessment of the relationship between them. Thirty (30) respondents, six (6)from each of the five stands offered by GSHS enrolled in the school year 2017-2018, were selected purposively. A two-part questionnaire which employed a 5-point scale were administered for gathering data. The collected data were treated statistically with weighted mean and ranking (descriptive statistics) and Pearson's r (inferential statistics).

RESULTS

As found out, the SHS programs were all highly accomplished in terms of the instruction, training resources and facilities and assessment because of the trained teachers, the provision of skills development resources and the use of standardized tools in the assessment. SHS students were found highly employable after developing required skills, competencies and values demanded by the local and global labor market. Indicators of the independent variable were found significantly related except for the training resources/facilities deemed not related to values development. The Proposed Action Plan addressed the problems encountered by the senior high school program of the GNHS.

DISCUSSIONS

The results reveal that teachers were trained, supplied with training resources/facilities, and used standardized assessments. SHS students are employable due to skills, competence, and values demanded by the labor market. Training resources/facilities do not predict values development, while the independent variable predicts employability. Continued teachers' training, using training resources/facilities and standardized assessment tool, organizing tie-ups and affiliation with agencies, utilizing training resources/facilities for values development, implementing the Action Plan with funds and manpower, and conducting a future study is recommended.
