Absenteeism: It's Effect to the Performance of the Pupils among the Selected Pupils of Bilucao Elementary School

Abstract

INTRODUCTION

Absenteeism is one of the most common causes of the degrading performances of students. To those included in the advanced intelligence curriculum, this can cause a great loss and may result in giving up the aimed position. Social interaction of the students within the classroom involves the teachers and their classmates where teaching and learning activities are being facilitated which need to be improved and addressed some factors that may somehow influence the learning process. It can also cause social repletion especially when a class is composed of a great number of students. This habit can cause a dilemma to the school administration when big figures are involved and may decrease the school's performance.

METHODS

The survey approach and the descriptive method was utilized in this research study. This approach was used for it corresponds to the main objective of this research which is to determine the effects of absenteeism to the school performance of selected pupils of Bilucao Elementary School. A survey questionnaire was distributed to be answered by pupils and teachers.

RESULTS

Majority of the respondents are male which composed 22 or 64.70 % while the females comprise 12 or 33.33% of the total population. 34 or 13.02% of the total population composing the pupils of Bilucao Elementary School with frequent absences. The Grade three pupils were among the highest percentage of pupils with frequent absences while the pupils in Kinder, Grade One, Four and Six have 5 or 14.70% of the total pupils with frequent absences and Grades Two and Five have 4 or 11.76% of the total population.

DISCUSSIONS

Purposive sampling was used in the selection of participants wherein the researchers listed only the pupils in each grade level having many absences. After that, the questionnaires were distributed to them. The purpose of the study was discussed to the respondents as well as the importance of gathering accurate responses from them. After the administration of the questionnaire, the papers were collected from the pupils for their tabulation and interpretation.
