INTRODUCTION
Attendance is an essential factor in school success among children and youth. Studies show that better attendance is related to higher academic achievement for students of all backgrounds, but particularly for children with lower socio-economic status. Beginning in kindergarten, students who attend school regularly score higher on tests than their peers who are frequently absent. Chronic absenteeism is usually defined as missing ten percent or moreof school days. Unfortunately, few school districts currently can analyze attendance data to identify those students who are chronically absent.
METHODS
Descriptive type use in action research with the questionnaires as the main instrument in gathering that would answer the problem posed in this study. It was distributed, collected, tallied, and interpreted to come up with the desired output. The study involves 60 pupils in grade V at Mabini Central School. Furthermore, the study revealed the common reasons for not attending classes.
RESULTS
With the acquired information, the findings were drawn. It is the systematic or intentional failure to attend school. While every pupil may miss some school activities now and then, absence becomes a problem when the student is away from school for many days. The distance of their house to the school, the danger posed by walking and no one accompany the pupil because of the distance got the highest percentage. This means that those factors are not reasons for them to be absent from school. Pupils were not able to attend classes because of their health conditions. The student does not wake up early enough is the most common reason why he/she is absent. Another reason commonly cited is that they cannot concentrate on their studies because they are not interested in their studies. Feeling lazy also keep them away from school.
DISCUSSIONS
Emphasis should be given to oral health and overall body wellness. Teach them how to avoid communicable diseases. Noise-reduction among students should be a priority. Older children, like grade V pupils, tend to have louder voices so they should be taught how to speak softly and without needing to shout. Emphasize to them that if they keep on asking their children to be absent, this will set a bad example to the child. If the parents themselves are keeping the child away from school, they must believe that household concerns are more important than their education.
