Absenteeism Reduction Plan for Grade Six Pupils at Sta. Elena Elementary School

INTRODUCTION
The purpose of the study identifies the common causes of absenteeism among the grade six pupil of Sta Elena Elementary and, make the necessary plan to reduce the absenteeism. The respondents composed of 30 grade six pupils. The researcher used questionnaires and checklist as a research tool. In analyzing data, the author used frequency, percentage, and weighted mean. The result shows the causes of absenteeism were home related factor t most common, which is 40%; personal Attitude was 27%, Health-related factor 23% Teacher factor 13% and classroom environment 10%. The author made an action plan to reduce absenteeism.
METHODS
The research " Absenteeism and its Effect to Academic Performance of Grade Six Pupils of Sta Elena Elementary School: Basis for Proposed Action Plan" comprises of twenty-nine respondents from grade six pupils. To identify the causes of absenteeism and its effect on academic performance, the researcher uses descriptive quantitative research to answer the question presented in the research question. The researcher utilized frequency, percentage, and weighted mean.
RESULTS
Common causes of absenteeism among the grade six pupils of Sta Elena The research surveyed 30 pupils from grade six, based on the data gathered among the common cause of absenteeism, the home related factors have the highest percentage,12 out of 30 respondents or total of 40%. These home related factors are 4 or 13% of the respondent said that their parent asks them to be absent,1 or 3% of the respondent said that their parent had conflict, 3% said that their parents do not care their studies. Too much household chores were the reason for six respondent or 20%, and no food and money are the reason for 3.3% respondent.
DISCUSSIONS
Intervention made to improve the attendance of the grade six pupil of Sta Elena Elementary. The researcher believes that through regular attending of classes can achieve excellent performance in school, and absences can lead to dropped out and absenteeism. Conducting a simple seminar for families about attendance. Every quarter the teacher asked the parents through the general PTA to give them knowledge on the importance of attending classes and the adverse effects of absenteeism. Giving recognition both and parents with complete and improve attendance. At the end of the month, the pupils and their parents were given recognition and gifts for those pupils who improved in their attendance.
