Abstract

INTRODUCTION

The value of reading goes beyond learning about different subject areas. Learners are expected to learn from the various segments of their learnings. The reading interest of every student must be established during their kindergarten and younger years, which include learning the alphabet, phonological sounds, CV words, sight words, phrases, and sentences. These skills are needed for young students to advance to the next level. Thus, the integration of speaking, reading, writing skills under the K to 12 curricula should meet the expectations of the 21st-century learners.

METHODS

Multiple methods were used to cater to the needs of the students/pupils in enhancing their reading ability and comprehension. One hundred seventy-one (171) Grade 4 students were provided with different learning techniques in reading through the Reading with Phonics, PHIL -IRI, Peer Teaching, Remedial and Power It Up.

RESULTS

Grade 4 students who participated in this research acquired enhanced ability in reading. The use of different techniques enabled the researcher to addess some problems and develop solutions for improving reading ability and comprehension.

DISCUSSIONS

The results demonstrate the need for active participation and varied techniques to enhance the ability of each learner. Active involvement in the students made the techniques effective and visible to them. Effective implementation is a factor in achieving continuous success and sustainability.
