A Model of Preparing Written Tasks Using Digital Technology for Grade Five Pupils

Abstract

INTRODUCTION

Nowadays, technology is considered as one of the necessities in our lives, including education. As the technology flourished and developed, new teaching strategies and techniques must be used to cater to the needs of the current generation. This study aimed to form a model in preparation for writing tasks using digital technology for Grade 5 pupils. The specific purpose of this study is to construct writing activities using digital technology based on the model PAGSULAT and to test the effectiveness of the various activities using the same model.

METHODS

The researcher used the descriptive-developmental method. The writing activities passed through the validations and were approved by three experts. The researcher gave importance to and considered the outcome of the results of the feedback made by the experts in revising the writing activity. The evaluation of the writing activities was analyzed by five experts who used questionnaires and interviews for the pupils. Then, the data were analyzed. The Likert Scale was used as an analytic instrument to evaluate the writing activities.

RESULTS

The results of the analyses pointed to the fact that digital technology enhanced the skills in the writing of the pupils. The study also showed that the model PAGSULAT has been useful and practical for learners to enhance their writing skills.

DISCUSSIONS

Based on the findings, the researcher recommended that digital technology can be applied: 1. to give a chance for the teacher to use this technology in a classroom setting; 2. to have a program that will intensify the knowledge of the technology so that it can be in line with the teacher's abilities; 3. to conduct a continuous program of discovering new ways, new techniques and methods, and instruments in using digital technology that can answer the needs of the current generation of learners; to use this study and enrich the model PAGSULAT which will thereby, make it more useful and practical to the learners and the teachers.
