Abstract

INTRODUCTION

Family is an essential factor for humans' holistic growth. Nowadays, a family could be two things, complete or broken. The loss of emotional and physical comfort, which should be provided at home can be a leading indicator for a child to be rebellious. The study was conducted to the selected Senior High School Students of Rodriguez National High School who were currently having this problem. Students at this age are the most effective respondents since this is the time when a person discovers how to confront problems, and learns how to live with it.

METHODS

Multiple methods were used in the conduct of this study. We conducted a face-to-face interview with the selected respondents, and a set of semi-structured questions were also given. Afterward, a documentary analysis was done as a basis for the intervention of this study.

RESULTS

Results show that 8.44% of the Senior High School belongs to a broken family. Many of the respondents agreed that their performance in school was affected by their parents' separation and that the concept of family should be composed by a mother, a father, and a child living together. 88% of the respondents said that because of their parent's separation, they become more open to friends rather than be close to their parents and they were able to cope with their loss through being more active in school and maintain a positive outlook in life.

DISCUSSIONS

The results demonstrate the needs to create an open forum focusing on reducing the negative impacts of broken family to the holistic growth of a child. This served as a primary intervention of the study while a short reflexive film was presented before the open forum to heighten the emotions of the respondents and stakeholders.
