Abstract

INTRODUCTION

San Pascual Senior High School 1 occupiedits new building located at San Antonio, San Pascual, Batangas. Particular unnecessary objects were present in the environment of the school, which can cause damages to school property or its people. However, the school still wanted to strengthen its adherence to the Implementing Rules and Regulation of the Republic Act 10121 or known as "An act strengthening the Philippines Disaster Risk Reduction and Management System, providing for the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Framework and Institutionalizing the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Plan, Appropriating funds therefore and for other Purpose. The school wanted to identify the different hazards in the school and the immediate responses to coping up with this hazard.

METHODS

This study entitled A DRRM Needs Analysis in San Pascual Senior High School 1 used descriptive -qualitative research. It used thirty-five (35) teachers, five (5) Supreme Students Government (SSG) officers as respondents of the study. A structured questionnaire was used in collecting the data, and it was qualitatively analyzed using the thematic method.

RESULTS

Based on the results, the most hazardous entity is its low-lying area which was prone to abrupt flooding, presence of objects that might cause harm to the students during the earthquake and tapped electric supply from neighbor school which supplies the power to the whole school. The respondents reported that they perform necessary measures to counteract the possible effects of these hazards such as planting plants inside the campus to lessen flooding, putting different objects on the high area. Moreover, the school is following the drills ordered by theDepartment of Education to at least prepare the school for the inevitable occurrences and also installation of fire alarm and a fire extinguisher in each floor of the building. Meanwhile, the school experienced challenges in its location due to the identified hazards.

DISCUSSIONS

The output of this research was more helpful to secure the school. As a result, the manual was presented to the teachers to make them totally aware and knowledgeable on some strategies and proper ways to do in order to eliminate hazards. With this, schools and stakeholders can have positive attitudes toward school and most importantly, toward education due to it is safe, secure, and free from hazard institution. The result can also be shared with other schools who want an idea on how to increase readiness and preparedness.
