Abstract

INTRODUCTION

Dagatan National High School is the biggest and the most populated public high school in the District of Taysan. Because of its sizeable population, with a large amount of waste collected every day, the district is facing a waste disposal problem. In view of this, the researcher came up with this action research project about making a plan using 3Rs (Reuse, Reduce, Recycle) waste management to mitigate the school's disposal problem.

METHODS

The descriptive research design was used with a self-structured questionnaire as the instrument to gather data. The respondents of the study were 100 students from Grade 7 to Grade 12 through random sampling to answer the set of questionnaire to be able to find out the school management waste disposal problem.

RESULTS

The results of the study showed that the school populace's awareness in proper waste disposal is very important in managing wastes problem. The common practice of the school regarding waste management, burning and composting, did not suffice for a solution needed in solving the problem. An action plan using 3Rs waste management could help mitigate the school's waste disposal problem.

DISCUSSIONS

An action plan was presented to the school administration and was implemented. Thus, students were educated about the 3Rs in waste management and the benefits they can get from it. Administrators and school staff helped solve the waste management problem by disseminating information about proper waste disposal and encouraged students to segregate garbage. Instead of using one garbage can, they use three and labeled it as to what kind of trash they can put to each bin. Continuous integration of caring for the environment in every lesson is a must in motivating students to recycle and show their creativity in making recycled projects.
