Abstract

INTRODUCTION

Human beings have always had an impact on the surroundings, and garbage is certainly one of the major causes of human-induced deterioration. Proper waste disposal ha, therefore, become an inevitable duty involving all of us. The role of every school in delivering the DepEd's vision and mission is to describe their purpose and major organizational commitments. It also includes describing a school's day-by-day activities and objectives and instructional values. And the most important is the public commitment to our students as well as in our community.

METHODS

The researchers used a qualitative-quantitative approach in conducting the study. The first action taken was formulating a checklist to measure that the processes are aligned with the goals of the program. The second was an evaluation of the effectivity of the checklist. It was therefore followed by the implementation of the program to test the effectiveness of the program to the Grade 5 class. Next was another evaluation if the program had improved waste segregation in the classroom. Lastly, the assessment of the program was conducted if it can be implemented in every classroom.

RESULTS

90% of the Grade 5 pupils ensured the cleanliness of their classroom through effective waste management. There was also increased awareness of waste segregation and minimization as well as guaranteed efficient and effective solid waste management. Waste collection service was improved in parallel with strengthening the activities for cooperating with the community. Management of waste disposal system was strengthened. There is now practice on how to eliminate, reuse and minimize waste.

DISCUSSIONS

As the data are given to the researchers, the school faces the problem of proper waste disposal inside its premises and the administration discern on the School Implementation Plan that the waste segregation program in the school was not fully implemented in the last two years. The researchers chose the grade 5 learners to conduct the program because they are competent enough to work as a team in this program. This study will benefit the individuals in the school: the school administration, teachers, and all the pupils occupying the school. The pupils shall be educated in 3R's. Administrators and teachers, as stewards, should ensure a supportive environment for effective learning to happen by recognizing the importance of cleanliness and maintenance as well as on the overall wellness of the school and the people who occupy it.
