Abstract

INTRODUCTION

Being able to get dressed is a fundamental component of participation in daily life. Children age 4 to 5 are expected to be able to dress themselves with buttons and zips. As early as their age, children should be developed independently. An innovation called "ATTACH ME" was designed, which uses parent-made manipulative material (dress attached in a frame with different types of buttons). The innovation develops the children's focus and concentration, as well as hand-eye coordination and motor skills as they learn to attach the buttons. They will master a valuable life skill, and it will become one of many in their movement toward independence.

METHODS

This action research used descriptive-evaluative research design. Data were provided on the assessment period of kindergarten pupils using Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) Checklist in assessing their performance. After the accurate, informative data gathering and procedures, data collected were organized, analyzed, and correctly interpreted.

RESULTS

The significant comparative difference of the performance level in buttoning competency of kindergarten pupils before and after the intervention revealed from 16 out of 38 Kindergarten pupils (58%) on June it increased to 100% on September 2018.

DISCUSSIONS

Based on the result of the data analysis, the use of "ATTACH ME" was an effective intervention in developing pupils' buttoning competency. It showed a positive effect on pupil's daily activity upon the implementation of the strategy.
