"Activity Mo, Kaya Ko": Strategy in Developing Fine Motor Skills of Kindergarten Pupils

Abstract

INTRODUCTION

This study was designed to improve the excellent motor skills of the identified kindergarten pupils through the innovation by the researcher of Patong Elementary School. Incorporating into the curriculum motor activities; localized and personalized materials like corn, lacing drinking straw, sand, stone sorting, beans and personalized activities (KG primary dots font style) these were done ten minutes daily after the class. Play-based activities are developmentally appropriate on the age level of pupils.

METHODS

Data collected through descriptive evaluative and non-experimental method. "Activity Mo, Kaya Ko" a strategy was used to ten identified pupils with poor excellent motor skills out of forty Kindergarten Pupils of Patong Elementary School. The pre-assessment scaled scores were obtained during the conduct of the ECCD Checklist upon the start of the learning intervention from October to December 2017.

RESULTS

The pre-assessment results revealed that pupils in Fine Motor Skills were Re-Test.This implied that the ten pupils had poor excellent motor skills and not legible in handwriting skills. After the intervention, the second administration scores were improved, nine out ten were "average," and one is suggested for "re-test."

DISCUSSIONS

Based on the results, Activity Mo, Kaya Ko Strategy being implemented helped to improve the excellent motor skills of the kindergarten pupils. Thus, it needs to sustain the strategy for the next grade level to have sustainable development and to avoid repetition of the problem encountered.
