INTRODUCTION
“Tulong Mo Pagbasa Ko” is a school-community partnership which provides learner support for the improvement of learning. Volunteer parents are involved in the reading sessions of Grade II non-reader pupils. The teacher provides reading materials. In SY 2016, 36 out of 82 Grade 2 pupils were identified non-readers level based on the results of the Phil. IRI administered on June 2016. The goal is to decrease the number of the identified non-readers from 36 to at most18 (50%) pupils by the end of February 2016. The 36 pupils’ non-readers at the core of Project “Tulong Mo Pagbasa Ko”.
METHODS
Methods and strategies used were divided into three milestones: Milestone 1 with four (4) action steps namely: meeting with the grade II teacher, conduct the mid-year oral reading test (Dec. 5, 2016), profiling of pupils, preparation of school memorandum, training matrix. Milestone 2 with five (5) action steps: planning and organization of project team, preparations of materials and strategies required, validation of SIM, training of parent volunteer, teacher-parents' orientation, and scheduling. Milestone 3 with four (4) action steps, namely: launching of the project, project implementation, monitoring and evaluation, post-assessment of the project.
RESULTS
The findings revealed that Project "Tulong Mo Pagbasa Ko" has done remarkable development on non-reader pupils. It also suggests that pupils preferred to read with assistance other than their teachers, and they may benefit from additional support in reading at home. 1. Timalan Elementary School has achieved zero non-readers in Grade Two.2. "Tulong Mo, Pagbasa Ko" is a feasible method of increasing pupils' reading proficiency and can be delivered by trained volunteers 3. The partnership between the school and the community was enhanced.
DISCUSSIONS
Educators must provide opportunities for pupils to experience reading as a rewarding and useful endeavor. A project such as "Tulong Mo Pagbasa Ko" provide pupils time, space, most importantly, mentoring for personal reading. The proponent details the impact parent-teacher mentoring had on pupils' reading attitudes and habits. Therefore, the project "Tulong Mo Pagbasa Ko" should be sustained.
