"Problem mo, Sagot ko Activity": Strategy to Improve Subtracting 3-4 Digit Numbers from 3-4 Digit Numbers with Regrouping Competencies of Grade 3 Pupils

Abstract

INTRODUCTION

This study primarily aimed to find ways on how to improve the subtracting skills of identified Grade 3 pupils of Patong Elementary School through the innovation of the researcher. The researcher conducted the pre-test where she found out that there are 10 out of 37 pupils who did not know how to subtract 3-4 digit numbers from 3-4 digit numbers with regrouping and it is evident through first grading least learned competencies M3NS-Ig-32.6. Prior to this issue, the researcher made a "Problem Mo, Sagot Ko" strategy to cater to the needs of the identified pupils.

METHODS

This study made use of descriptive research design. " ̃Problem Mo, Sagot ko" strategy was used with the identified Grade 3 pupils of Patong Elementary School, Patong San Miguel, Surigao del Sur who were poor in subtracting skills. The data was analyzed after having pre-test and post-test. The data was collected through the descriptive, evaluative, and non-experimental method.

RESULTS

After applying the intervention, subtracting skills of grade three pupils were improved. Out of ten (10) identified pupils, 7 improve and 3 needed remediations.

DISCUSSIONS

Based on the findings of the study, the difficulty of subtracting numbers may affect academic performance among pupils. The subtracting skills of the pupils based on the impact of the strategy applied were improved.
