Abstract

INTRODUCTION

Mastery of the basic math facts is essential in the teaching of Mathematics at the elementary level. However, it is frustrating to note that despite the efforts of the elementary grade teachers, in teaching the basic math facts to the pupils, still many of them do not have mastery of the basic facts, particularly multiplication.

METHODS

Selective -purposive sampling was used in this research. 16 out of the 30 pupils of Grade Four-Sunflower underwent the intervention and asked to solve then answer worksheets and performed the exercise. Researchers of Bon-ot Elementary School were able to formulate an intervention in response to the problem; it is called "Math Exercise Kita." This intervention continues for five days, on the last day of the intervention, pupils were given the same questions based on the least academic competency in the first grading examination.

RESULTS

The intervention brought a significant improvement in the scores in testing the knowledge in multiplying whole numbers with or without regrouping among the 16 respondents. Their scores after the application of the intervention revealed that no more pupils belong to the beginning and developing a level.

DISCUSSIONS

The promising results suggest that the intervention "Math ExerciseKita" can enhance the skills of the learners with a learning difficulty in multiplication.
