The Localization and Contextualization in Teaching and the Performance of Grade-V Pupils of San Vicente Elementary School in Araling Panlipunan

Abstract

INTRODUCTION

In the 1987 constitution, localization and contextualization are prioritized for things that have to do with the culture and should be treated correctly and with high due respect. The main goal of the study is to find a suitable strategy that will help Grade-V pupils of San Vicente Elementary School to achieve academic progress in Araling Panlipunan(AP). The use of the experimental design in obtaining data concerning the integration and contextualization in providing instruction and the performance of the Grade-V pupils in AP.The main objective of San Vicente ES is to provide globally competitive learners when it comes to AP subject and the others as well.

METHODS

The researcher used the experimental type of research in collecting needed data and treating it, focusing on the integration of localization and instruction in the teaching of AP to Grade-V pupils. The performance will then be compared for the two groups will be taught differently, that also uses a pretest and post-test in assessing progress.

RESULTS

More significant progress was manifested by the group who tried the use of localization and contextualization strategy over the group that uses only the traditional strategy. Higher scores were obtained by the group that was exposed to the use of localization and contextualization. There is a significant difference, as shown in the mean scores of the group.

DISCUSSIONS

Upon obtaining scores based on the Diagnostic Test in AP, the average is just 75%, but after the application of the localization and contextualization strategy the average obtained was 85% compared to the average of the group that only focus on the traditional way, they only got an 80% for the total average. Meaning more significant impact was achieved due to the strategy that has been tried in the research.
