Abstract

INTRODUCTION

Pupils who are struggling in learning to read deserve to have educators that make every effort possible to ensure their success based on their PHIL IRI 40 pupils resulted under the frustration level. Reading intervention is necessary. So, we come-up to a program called "ISAPUSO" The said pupils are expected to improve their reading ability before the year-end based on the result of the evaluation given to them. The teaching of reading must be carefully planned to meet the needs of all our children taking into the account low literacy baselines and inconsistent home support.

METHODS

This study employed the Descriptive Design to determine the evaluation given to pupils using the reading program ISAPUSO.

RESULTS

Phil IRI was given as pre-reading assessment to Grade III pupils of Galicia Elementary School. Forty pupils fell under the frustration level. 95% of the pupils improved; the remaining 5% were still at the frustration level. The study measured the literacy of the pupils that will help the pupil to improve their skills in reading. The researcher gathered data from the pre-test, and post-test was compared based on the scores collected per month. There was a slight improvement in scores in the first month and more improvements in the following month.

DISCUSSIONS

The reading intervention was done after finding out the result of Phil-IRI. After the assessment of the result, we found out that there were 40 pupils fell under the frustration level. Those pupils underwent the intervention called ISAPUSO. The researchers were given four months to assist struggling readers using reading and printed resources. After the first month of the intervention, the pupils were able to read the CVC words and Basic Sight words. For the second month, the pupils improved and were able to read phrases.
