Abstract

This research study aimed to determine the relationship of the learning styles and academic performance of the Grade 5 Pupils of St. Mary's College, Quezon City SY 2013-2014. The study used the descriptive-correlation method to determine the relationship between the learning styles and academic performance. One hundred sixty -six (166) Grade5 pupils were the respondents in this study. The respondents' ages range from 10-11 years old. They were chosen using the stratified random sampling method. The instruments applied were the results of the Learning Style Preference Test and the Third Quarter Point average of the grade five pupils. Statistical treatment applied was the Pearson Product Moment Correlation. Based on the findings, the Learning Style Preference can be a predictor of the Academic Performance of Grade 5 Pupils and among the seven (7) Learning Styles, pupils with Physical and Verbal learning styles are likely to excel and improve more in their school performance. The result of the study will be presented to the academic council to facilitate further discussions and studies which may help in improving the academic performance of the Grade 5 pupils.
