21st Century Leadership Skills of Principals in the Division of Quezon: Basis foran Action Plan

Abstract

This study assesses the 21st Century Leadership Skills of Principals in the Division of Quezon. It employed the descriptive-correlational type of research in gathering relevant information as they exist. Survey questionnaire was used as the main data gathering tool to assess the leadership skills of the 338 teacher-respondents and 91 principal-respondents. Findings reveal that majority of the respondents were in the age bracket of 41 to50 years old, female, married and with the highest educational attainment of having bachelor’s degree with master’s unit among teachers, and master’s degree holders for principal respondents, majority of them was with master’s degree. The study further reveales that the utmost record of the school-based performance was developing and the 21st century principals have high level of leadership skills in terms of administrative skills, interpersonal skills and conceptual skills. On the administrative skills, the highest indicator was “managing people” followed by “managing resources” while the lowest indicator was “showing technical competence. Under interpersonal skills, the indicator “being socially perceptive” got the highest rate, followed by the indicator “handling conflict” while the lowest indicator was “emotional intelligence”. There was a significant difference on the responses of school heads and teachers in terms of the 21st century leadership skills of principals.
